Suffering from pain or physical? Immediately find your true love. A further study found that true love can ease the pain.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the tests performed on 17 women who saw pictures of their spouses. However, in the present study, they are less affected when viewing photos mate. They still feel uncomfortable when seeing pictures of spiders, objects, or even strangers.
Researchers claim that this discovery could help to determine how emotions act at different brain areas. Includes knowing how to handle uncomfortable feelings.
In a previous study found that women's pain will be reduced when they see a photo or her partner's hand. However, a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science is the first time that researchers were unable to find the area of the brain responsible for feelings.
To that end, the researchers scan the brain areas of female respondents, while other body parts receive the shock. They were asked to gaze at the picture varies from a partner, a stranger, or a solid object. Respondents were then given a scale to 20 to assess the pain they feel.
Pain scale is significantly lower in women who view pictures of their spouses. The researchers also found activity in prefrontal cortex ceventromedial areas of the brain associated with feeling safe.
The longer women are in a relationship and the more they are supported by their partners, the greater the level of activity in the cortex which is also called the VMPFC it.
VMPFC is able to inhibit other pathways in the brain responsible for fear and anxiety. This area is also able to reduce pain.
The researchers also found that the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, an area which is responsible for responding to stress, are less active when women look at photographs of their partners.
"We also found that people in long-term relationships showed greater activity in the area," said lead researcher Naomi Eisenberger.
He added, "It shows how strong the effect of love. They can make us feel the pain reduced just by thinking about them or see their pictures."
Meanwhile, pictures of snakes and spiders will produce the opposite effect. That's because in the history of evolution, animals like snakes and spiders are considered to threaten human life.
