If you like having the latest, greatest gadget in your pocket for even a few months, you're likely not a fan of Samsung. The world's largest smartphone maker has a habit of releasing new hardware at a ridiculously fast pace, such as the Galaxy Note II, which Samsung announced just six months after the original Galaxy Note oversized smartphone went on sale last February.
The latest example: Just three months after the Galaxy S III went on sale, we have rumors of a Galaxy S IV in early 2013. When the S III went on sale in June, Samsung lauded its latest flagship phone as "the next big thing," a claim we didn't agree with. But now we have talk of the next next big thing popping up from an unnamed Samsung executive speaking with the Korea Times.
The report has Samsung announcing a Galaxy S IV in February, at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress event, and having it in stores by March "at the latest." If that's true, it would replace the S III just nine months into its life. This, of course, wouldn't be the first time that Samsung has introduced a new flagship phone at such a rapid-fire pace. In addition to the quick Note update, Samsung launched the Galaxy Nexus last November and the Galaxy S II in August 2011. That's five new top-of-the-line phones in a year — the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II — each one-upping the other in terms of specs and features.
So what will the Galaxy S IV offer when it does inevitably arrive? According to the Korea Times, it'll feature a 5-inch display, up from the 4.8-inch screen on the S III. Aside from that, details on the new handset are sparse, though it will have variants running on both quad-core and dual-core chipsets, and connect to 4G LTE networks, as the current S III does.
